Daily Prompt: Karma Chameleon: Reincarnation: do you believe in it?
Reincarnation is the belief that once you die your soul, or a part of your soul, is reborn into a new life. Karma is cause and effect. What you do comes back to you, positively or negatively. Some religions, like Hinduism and Buddhism, are firm believers in karma and reincarnation. Pythagoras, if I remember correctly from my philosophy class believed that the soul was made into bodily shapes, and Plato thought that our souls originated in Heaven and were put into human form because of sin and then through reincarnation, as many times as it takes, you could eventually get back to a state of purity and once again your soul would reside in Heaven. However, this is more about what I believe not the religious aspect of reincarnation.
The Law of Physics states that energy is never lost, it just changes. So if the energy that is us isn’t actually lost and just changes, it would make sense that some of us are reincarnated. Some believe in a spiritual punishment or reward system, while others simply believe in the migration of your soul, whether or not you come back as a human or an animal depends on your beliefs, so as far as I’m concerned I’m taking the stance that if reincarnated I’ll come back as a human…instead of say a chimp or a cow or a butterfly (now that I might not mind but they don’t live very long) or maybe I’d prefer to be a dolphin–that I think I could live with.
I believe in reincarnation. My grandmother often spoke of reincarnation. She was before her time, or at least many considered her to be, and I’m one of them. I often wonder if she’s not come back in the spirit of a relative or of someone I’ve met or will meet, or if she’s gone on to live a whole new life. The possibilities are endless. And though I’m sure there are many out there that will find my beliefs to be contradictory to their own Christian, Catholic…religious views, this is not a debate about religion, talking about my beliefs on religion or politics is usually out of my comfort zone, and I just wrote a brief post about my religious views for the 30 Day Blogging Challenge see here. But reincarnation is actually a religious belief in some religions, see we’re back to that whole religion thing, and I’m trying really hard to stay away from that.
So, there was a movie I saw years ago with Christopher Reeves about reincarnation, or maybe it was time travel, it was called “Somewhere in Time” and then there is the movie with Robin Williams called “What Dreams May Come” (one of my favorite movies) , or the movie “Heaven Can Wait” with Warren Beatty, or “Made in Heaven” with Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGillis. I think I’ll go with the movie “What Dreams May Come”‘s version of reincarnation. If you haven’t seen the movie you need to.
If, or when, I am reincarnated, if I haven’t been already, I’m open-minded, I hope that the whole soul mates thing is true and that my husband and I will find each other in the next life.

I’ve read that in reincarnation, you do look for your soul mate again and again. I hope it’s true.

My husband and I talked about it after re-watching the movie “What Dreams May Come” and we’ve agreed that should we be reincarnated that’s exactly what we hope for, is to be able to spend another lifetime together. It’s definitely a romantic thought.

I posted on this too today. In a nutshell this mystic explained we have been trying for over a millennia in several different lives to be toghether, this is the first where we have been able to. Which when we first met explains that sense of “relief” & “home” that swept over us. We didn’t tell eachother that “feeling” until after that meeting. Blew us over.

From our perception, butterflies don’t live very long – but I wonder how a butterfly percieves it? Do they experience time differently? What are their needs for living a rich, full, life? Perhaps they don’t live very long because they don’t need very long to experience everything in this world they are meant to… And then it is time to move on again.

I always say, should I ever be reincarnated, I want to come back as a cat living in luxury.
