My name

28 May

Daily Prompt: Say Your Name. Write about your first name: Are you named after someone or something? Are there any stories or associations attached to it? If you had the choice, would you rename yourself?

Photographers, show us  YOU.

IMG_1137My name is Melissa. My mom named me after a woman who was on a television show she liked. The young woman’s name was Melissa. Back then, in the late 60s there weren’t very many Melissa’s. My middle name is after my mom’s favorite aunt (Corrine). When she was thinking of names she came up with Dawn or Donna because my father’s name was Donald (Don) or Rachel, but they decided to go with Melissa. Growing up I was called Missy or Lissa. Now that I’m older (old) my family still calls me Missy but most of my friends either call me Melissa or Lissa. My paternal grandmother always called me Lissa, which is probably my preference. Not Lisa, but Lissa.
