Writing my vows, putting the ceremony together

Book of Love

Book of Love (Photo credit: semuthutan)

We’ve decided our first reading will be this:

The Book Of Love, by Stephen Merritt  from the album 69 Love Songs

The book of love is long and boring

No one can lift the damn thing
It’s full of charts and facts and figures
And instructions for dancing

But I,
I love it when you read to me.
And you,
You can read me anything.

The book of love has music in it,
In fact that’s where music comes from.
Some of it is just transcendental,
Some of it is just really dumb.

But I,
I love it when you sing to me.
And you,
You can sing me anything.

The book of love is long and boring,
And written very long ago.
It’s full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes,
And things we’re all too young to know.

But I,
I love it when you give me things.
And you,
You ought to give me wedding rings.

And I,
I love it when you give me things.
And you,
You ought to give me wedding rings.
You ought to give me wedding rings.

As we make each decision concerning the wedding, especially the ceremony, it makes it more real. I know it is not a dream, but there are times when it feels a bit surreal. Maybe it would feel differently if I had a wedding planner and I weren’t doing it all myself ,  we weren’t doing it all ourselves. Because we are making all the plans, I am primarily the person who is doing all the research and coming up with the bulk of ideas and then we are going through those to chose what fits us best, it feels more personal…I’m so excited about how it is finally all coming together.

I think we’re going to use these quotes for the program:

“Love is like a friendship caught on fire.” ~Jeremy Taylor

“You have a made a place in my heart where I thought there was no room for anything else. You have made flowers grow where I cultivated dust and stones.” ~Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”  ~When Harry Met Sally

“The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more.” ~James Patterson, The Notebook
