Daily Prompt: All About Me Explain why you chose your blog’s title and what it means to you.

The Lissa Chronicles, how it got its name…

My first name is Melissa, but the whole time I was growing up my family and then friends called me Missy, which I hate. It’s what older people call little girls. I remember when I first went to kindergarten the teacher called me Missy because my mom told her that was my nickname and I told the teacher, “No, my name is Melissa.” It didn’t stick.

Years went by, and when I moved out from home, was at a full-time job, and going to college part-time I made sure that I only told people that my name was Melissa. I’d be around family and friends I grew up with and most of them would still call me Missy. After a while though, my newer friends began to shorten my name to Lissa, which as fine with me. I preferred it to Missy.

Without telling my new husband (or his dad) that my nicknames were Lissa and/or Missy I began to hear my husband say “Lissa.” And then randomly, I would hear his dad refer to me as Missy or Lissa. I couldn’t help but laugh.

When I started thinking about the name of my blog I wasn’t sure of what type of name I wanted. Originally my blog was more about planning my upcoming wedding, and fixing up our home, so when I was thinking of names I thought, “Well, I sort of want a chronicle of what’s going on, what I’m doing, what I’m thinking and feeling, as we go through all of this.” And then I thought, well, why not “Lissa’s Chronicles” but that didn’t sound right. So I wrote down a few things that might work, but nothing really fit. I walked away from my list and got myself a cup of coffee. As I sipped my coffee the name “The Lissa Chronicles” hit me and it sounded right. If I chose to make my blog about more than just the planning of our wedding, fixing up our house, or cooking, or scrapbooking, or whatever was going on in my life then I could…The blog wasn’t just about wedding planning, it was about my life in general.

Now, it’s not like what’s going on in MY life is all that important to the blogosphere, but there are many others out there who were feeling stressed out, frustrated, and overwhelmed while planning their wedding, And there are a ton of people out there who are DIY’ing (when it comes to their wedding, or fixing their house). And there are lots of women out there who have been through some type of female hardship like cancer, uterine tumors, menopause, etc. And there are lots of new grandmothers out there. Etc. I could make The Lissa Chronicles about whatever I wanted, it was pretty much a journal of my life, thoughts, ideas, feelings, etc.

I’m a reader, a writer, a photographer, a housewife, a mother, a grandmother, a newlywed, a friend, a daughter, a sister, a niece, a grandchild (even though all of my grandparents are deceased), a cousin, a 40 something year old woman….I could go on with the list of things that I am, but most of all I am me. And the Lissa Chronicles is a good part of who I am.
