I’m supposed to write about my view on mainstream music, truth is I’m not a big fan of mainstream music. I like classic rock, classic R & B, and some of the newer country, and some newer rock (actually light rock, since I’m not into heavy metal or hard rock). And my husband is, so it makes for an interesting trip in the car when we’re going somewhere.
Since my husband is a singer and guitar player, he’s taking a break from being in a band right now, I am often listening to music. Many of his friends are in bands, and we go to see them. And when he was in the band I went to almost every gig. So music is a part of my life, but not mainstream music.
I have always preferred live music. My uncles used to come over and they’d play their guitars and sing. Mr. Rockstar often does the same thing, and his friends often ask him to do it whenever they come over or we go over, “Why didn’t you bring your guitar?” They’ll ask. Some of them have guitars and will get theirs out for him to play and sing.
So why not mainstream music? Well, I listen to the radio when I’m in the car, but most of the time it’s on the classic rock station, but I’ll flip back and forth to the radio station that has mainstream music sometimes and I’m always amazed at what some people consider to be music. Repetitive lyrics that don’t have any real meaning, and I wonder what happened to music that spoke to the soul.
I don’t own an IPod, and I’m not sure that I want to. I’d love to have a MacPro though, or an iMac. Just not into the listening to music all the time when I could be reading a book or writing. I listen to a playlist or a cd I burned when I clean, and I listen to music when I’m in the car, but like I said, my preference is live music.
Maybe that makes me old school but that’s okay. There’s nothing like sitting in front of someone who is playing a guitar and singing.
