Daily Prompt: Places Beach, mountain, forest, or somewhere else entirely?
I grew up on James Island. which is a hop, skip, and a jump from Folly Beach. My aunt had a home on Folly, and my daddy had a gas station on Folly. I spent a LOT of time on Folly Beach. And there is nothing like the smell of the ocean.
As a matter of fact, the first time I moved out from home I moved to a small cottage on Folly. It belonged to my aunt, and I absolutely loved it. If I could have afforded to stay there by myself without a roommate I’d have stayed there as long as she’d have let me. I loved it!!!!
I walked on the beach in the late afternoons, after I got off work. Oftentimes, I watched the sunset right there on the beach. I was about 4-5 streets from front beach, so walking to the beach was nothing. Especially not when I was 18. I loved it there.
My next favorite spot is Colonial Lake in Charleston, SC. I love the houses, the lake, the view. Plus, when I was young my (paternal) grandfather used to take me there to fish or collect pecans. We always made a day of it. Sometimes I’d sit on a blanket and read a book while he fished. We often brought our lunch and had a picnic.
I’ve only been to the mountains once, and it was on a family vacation and I was a teenager. I love the mountains, but it’s been so long since I’ve been that I’d need to go again, and soon, to put it on my list of places.
I think it’s time for another visit to Charleston soon.
