Judging a book by its cover

27 Mar

EB White's BooksA few of the first books that were my favorites were: Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little by E.B. White; the Narnia Chronicles by C.S. Lewis; and Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

I also tried to get through Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe but never made it. I still have those books.

Snoopy's it was a dark and stormy night

My other favorite of course was Snoopy and “It was a dark and stormy night.”  And it’s the only one I don’t still have. However, if I were to read a book based only on it’s cover it might be:

Odd Hours

Or perhaps I’d read:

Dark Tower VII

And I own both of those and have read them. But I don’t judge books (or people) by their covers. I’m an avid reader. I have books written by Shakespeare, Hemingway, Vonnegut, Bradbury, and Stephen King, James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, John Sandford, Anne Rice, Robert Jordan, Kevin Hearne, Stephanie Meyers, Tolkien, Tami Hoag, Lisa Jackson, J.K. Rowling, Thomas Harrison, Gregory Maguire, Michael Crichton, John Grisham, Sherilyn Kenyon, Fannie Flagg, Sue Grafton, Nora Roberts, Danielle Steele, Nicholas Sparks…I read all kinds of books. Heck, I read the backs of cereal boxes, newspapers, magazines… I tend to read the jacket or the first few pages to see if it’s something I’m interested in, but sometimes you just don’t know until you’re a chapter in….

Snap for Charlotte’s Web and the Narnai chronicles! Also, snap on Tolkien, Shakespeare and all the thrillers and murder-mysteries: Cornwell and Grisham absolutely ROCK!

Good list! It’s interesting that Dean Koontz has popped up a couple of times on separate blogs. I wonder who illustrates his books?
