When Mr. Rockstar and I began dating my daughter was about to move out so within a month I had my apartment to myself. It stayed clean. The only area where there was clutter was my desk. When it comes to my creative working space (crafts, etc) if I have my own space and room to organize things all you’re going to see is a creative clutter or a bit of mess on my desk (papers, books, post-it notes stuck to the monitor or wall or cork board or all of the above, and a few pens and a coffee cup and ashtray. Mr. Rockstar is the ORGANIZER. Everything has its place and everything goes in its place. He organizes his stuff like nobody’s business but not household stuff.
Before my son moved in I had a study, but I gave that room up so he could move in with and go to college. He’d just turned 24 and he’ll be going in the military when he’s done with his two-year degree. So we converted our dining room into my study. Don’t get me wrong, I have my own little corner and I’m happy about that, just really wishing it wasn’t out in the open. So my creative clutter is visible to everyone. Mr. Rockstar’s clothes are all folded and neatly organized in his dresser drawers, mine are just in there. Mr. Rockstar’s tools and papers and other stuff–all organized, my stuff is haphazardly organized.
So when today’s prompt said Odd Couple: Does a messy home (or office) make you anxious and cranky, or is cleaning something you just do before company comes over? I couldn’t help but smile and feel like maybe the Daily Prompt was checking up on some of it’s followers/posters. When the kitchen and bathroom are messy I get anxious and cranky. When someone is coming over I straighten my creative clutter areas up (since they are visible). Mr. Rockstar, as organized as he is, doesn’t really worry about it though. He knows I am a creative clutter person and accepts me the way I am. And when the kitchen becomes a mess after I have cooked dinner and I began freaking out because it’s dirty he’ll remind me that it isn’t going to go anywhere–either he’ll clean it or he’ll remind me it can wait until I feel better. 😀
