It’s been a while I know

Not that the blogosphere cares one way or the other if I, one little minuscule person in the grander scheme of things, posts on my blog or not, but I’ve been so busy writing, posting on my writer blog that I’d forgotten about my personal blog until I saw a comment that I needed to approve show up in my email. Whoa! Damn, has it been that long since I posted on my other blog?…I asked myself, and the answer was–I couldn’t remember the last time I posted anything to this one, which made me feel guilty as hell.

I’ve often wondered if I ought to combine the two blogs into one blog with different pages: one page for the personal stuff and one page for the writing stuff… Hmmm. something to think about in the new year. Maybe when I finally decide to purchase my own site I’ll do that. Then I’ll have to come up with a whole new name, one that encompasses both.

So what has been going on? It’s a whole new year first of all. Can you believe it’s already 2015? I can’t. The time just passes by way to quickly–What happened to the time? seems to be a reoccurring theme in my life since I hit 30+, and now that I’m 40+ it’s worse.

I got a new hairdo. End of 2014 034

Mr. Rockstar has been busy with his new job. And I’ve been going out with him most of the time when he has to go out Over the Road. We’ve been to places like West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama…I have such a good time when I go out OTR with him, and I usually get a lot of writing done.

Speaking of writing, I’ve been writing. And I won NaNoWriMo back in November.

I’ve been working on lots of DIY projects around our house.

I’ve also been vlogging (if you check out my other blog you’ll see some of the videos there.), which is completely new to me. I started vlogging for NaNoWriMo and have stuck with it thus far. It’s been great. I’ve met so many writer friends. 😀

The Little Man and Mr. Rockstar in the Big Truck...

The Little Man and Mr. Rockstar in the Big Truck…

My grandson turns 2 1/2 on the 15th of this month…He is so absolutely adorable. I love that kid more and more… so much it makes my heart feel like it’s going to burst in my chest, and I’m just so proud of my daughter–she is one hell of a mom. And she’s doing well in college, and now has a part-time job. not to mention the fact that she’s a great daughter and person. I am one proud Mom!

As a Mom it’s such a joy when your children grow up and become more than just your child but your friend as well. And my daughter is one of my best friends and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Just like with my husband, Mr. Rockstar, he is truly one of my best friends–he would tell you the same about me. I think that’s one of the reasons we have such a wonderful, happy marriage.

I’ve also been busy because my cousin L who was in my wedding is getting married and I’m going to be her matron of honor. I already have my dress. I love the color scheme she chose. Dark blue (midnight blue) and silver (mercury).

Matron of Honor Dress...

Matron of Honor Dress…

My hair is cut now, so it’ looks different, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to wear it up for her wedding, but I absolutely love my dress. We got to choose our dress. It had to be one of two materials, basically, and they all have to be same color, but the choice of dress was up to us. I chose this one, and since I’m the oldest person in the wedding I thought it suited me best–didn’t want to get something that was too young looking or too old looking…

Now it’s time for me to start working on her bachelorette party stuff, and her bridal shower stuff. What to do, what to do? Hmmm. 24 hours of girl stuff… Hmmm! Mani and Pedi, hair, drinks, that kind of thing–at least for the two of us. I’m going to treat her to a “girls day,” but for all of us girls what??? My mind is making internal lists as I type. A stripper just isn’t her thing I don’t think, so I’ve got to come up with something else fun.

And on that note, since I now have a mental image of Mark Wahlberg and Channing Tatum in my mind I’m going to go. Hope everyone had a great New Years Eve and Happy New Year!

On Writing

Bad Lissa! I’ve been so busy with my writing blog and writing that I’ve completely neglected this blog. I really should do better, but I’m not promising anything. I don’t like to make promises I can’t keep so I’ll just say I’ll try to do better.

IMG_2679It’s time for a cup of coffee and some conversation. Let’s sit down and chat.

Last time I posted I believe Mr. Rockstar had gone out on the road, I was going with him sometimes but not all the time. He’s no longer with that company so he’s home almost every night. Every now and then he goes over the road (OTR) but it’s usually just for a night or two and when he does go I almost always go with him. I enjoy those times together.

My book? Well, it’s going well. It’s going to be a series. I’m not sure how many, it seems that trilogies are the thing, but I’m pretty sure that there are at least 4 books so I guess we’ll just see. I am enjoying the process. I bought a (used) iBook G4 because my HP laptop is shot. It gets so hot that I’m sure it’s eventually going to spontaneously combust. I’ll never buy another HP laptop. I love my HP desktop, but not their laptops. I’m still learning how to use the Mac operating system, but once we can afford it I would love to have an iMac.

Since we’re on the topic of my computer my mind naturally shifts to writing spaces, work spaces… Where do you write? Is it inspiring? Since I no longer have my own writing room, my son is back so I had to give up my writing room. Bummer, I know. But family comes first. So this is what we did so that I wasn’t stuck in a corner somewhere writing. I had the option of taking over the dining room again, but I didn’t really want to do that.

I’d love to see pictures and hear about where you work, write, etc… I’ve got a thing about writing spaces. Send me a link if you like…I’d love to see your writing space.

It’s the little things that matter most

Before I met Mr. Rockstar/Truck Driver I didn’t do holidays, not really. Especially holidays like Valentine’s Day. Since we’ve been together I’ve tried to think of unique things to do for the holiday. I wrote him a poem our first Valentine’s Day together. This year I thought I’d do something different as well, especially since we really don’t have the money to buy each other presents.

My writing room. My desk is the red one, the other desk is for my husband.

My writing room. My desk is the red one, the other desk is for my husband.

I’ve been working on my writing room for the past month (or more) and now that I have both desks in the room, his and her’s desks, I thought I’d take the writing room a step further and make it a writing/music room. It wouldn’t take much to combine his love of music with my love of writing (and books).

Our Wall copy

Last weekend he hung the other shelf, the one that I needed the drill for. After the shelf was hung, I realized I should have put the top shelf more to the right, but oh well. I’m not putting more holes in the wall just to move it. So I improvised. Now it’s our wall, complete with music stuff, books, poetry, a picture of us, etc… And I have to say I like the end result, though I’m not completely done with the wall.

He’s on the road right now, and won’t be home until tomorrow, and he’ll be gone on Valentine’s Day, so I put part of his present together (on the wall) early. I’m not sure if I’ll write him another poem or if I’ll make him a card or cook him a romantic dinner. I’ll think of something.

Writing Room

warning novelist at work

February 3; # 34 (well, mine is actually # 1, since this is my first post for the 365 days worth of Writing Prompts, but who’s counting…)
Writing room:  A genie has granted your wish to build your perfect space for reading and writing. What’s it like?

my little corner 002

My little corner writing space before I got my writing room. I was literally in the corner of our bedroom.

My writing room. My desk is the red one, the other desk is for my husband.

My writing room. My desk is the red one, the other desk is for my husband.

I have my very own writing room now. Thanks to my wonderful and amazing husband and daughter, and thanks to my son (who moved out because he went into the Army and is now in bootcamp). So instead of writing what I’d wish for, I thought I’d write about why my writing room is the perfect space for reading and writing and why I’m so grateful to have it.

Before I got my own writing room I was tucked away in the corner of our bedroom. Literally. See…

But now I have my very own writing room. Complete with bookcases, and I’m no longer stuck in the corner. When my son moved out to go to bootcamp for the Army I got his room to do whatever I wanted with. My husband, who is absolutely wonderful and amazing, said I could decorate it however I wanted as long as I didn’t use orange or green. So I thought about what I’d want. Red. Purple. Bright, bold creative colors. But my (step) daughter’s favorite color is also purple and she really wanted her room purple. Since I didn’t want to paint the walls red, since I’m going to paint our dining room a dark red (Carolina Gamecock’s red) I decided I’d use red as the accent color in my writing room and find a color that would go with red but wasn’t dark. I looked up the meaning of colors and found that blue hues are focus colors. I don’t like baby blue, and dark blue wouldn’t have worked, so I chose a color called Aqua Chiffon. My daughter helped me clear out most of the room and we painted. It turned out so much better than I expected. She also helped me paint the bookcases. One is charcoal gray and the other is red. I also painted parts of my desk red. There is a twin bed in the writing room for when my daughter and grandson come over. There’s plenty of room for the little man’s pack-n-play, and she can sleep in the twin bed.

Twin bed (we need to get the bed frame out of storage...)

Twin bed (we need to get the bed frame out of storage…)

As you can see the room is not finished. We just moved my red desk in there, and I’ve got a lot of work to do to finish organizing the room and my desk. My son’s stuff is in the closet for now, and his big FS TV is also in there, but once he gets that out of there I’m going to find a comfortable chair to put in that spot so I can sit and read there, or so my husband (AKA, Mr. Rockstar) can sit there and play guitar. Nothing like writing to the sound of live music. 😀  Maybe once we get the rest of the stuff with the house fixed and fixed up, and quite a few other things taken care of we could get a red leather recliner… Hmmm… I love red and Mr. Rockstar loves recliners.

red leather recliner

But for now my son’s TV is there, and once it’s out of there I have a black rocker that will go there. Too many other things we need to do first before getting a red leather recliner, but since I’m wishing and a genie granted that wish… IMG_1780

Now on to being thankful.

IMG_1334 IMG_1335 IMG_1336 IMG_1337

When we first moved into the house, I wasn’t the only one who wanted a space of his/her own. My (step) daughter shares a room with her cousin. When she comes here she has her own room, but I wanted to make it hers. Really hers. A teenage girl’s room. Something she’d enjoy hanging out in, somewhere she’d feel relaxed and peaceful. So not only did it get painted purple, but I found the perfect comforter set for a 14 year old who loves stuff like peace signs, the color purple, and stuff. And here is her room…Complete with a 1 Direction poster (we’re not finished with her room either. We’ll be putting up more posters and stuff soon). I know what it’s like to need and want a small safe haven…even if it’s a corner in your bedroom or a space in the dining room or your very own writing room or bedroom. I’ve had to share a room with my daughter before, I’ve had to sleep on the couch or a pallet…Thank God I’ve always had a place to sleep though.

I’m thankful for my safe haven, to me home is where the heart is and where you feel the safest and that’s wherever my husband is…He and my family are my home! The house is only a home if you feel loved and safe there within its walls, and I do. And I want to give that very same thing to those who come into our home… A place for them to feel safe and loved, even if they’re only visiting. Having my own writing room is a blessing, but I’d gladly give it up for my family.

Rainy Days

In my writing room

In my writing room

As soon as Mr. Rockstar/Mr. Trucker Driver calls me and his mom are headed to Columbia to pick him up. He left Alabama, near Montgomery, sometime this morning and is headed home. I’m excited to say the least. Wishing we could have spent this cold, rainy day together snuggling on the couch watching movies or cooking a meal together or spending the day with our grandson (who is actually visiting his dad and his aunt this weekend but you know what I mean)…instead I’ll get part of the day with him, and tonight, and tomorrow, but he’ll probably be headed back out Monday. 😦

Cold, gray, and rainy day

Cold, gray, and rainy day

I’m dressed and ready, drinking coffee, and writing while I wait on his call. That seems to be the life of the wife of a truck driver, always waiting for them to call and to come home. I don’t mind. My ex husband was in the Navy and gone for 3 months at a time on a submarine so I know all about the waiting game and I’d much rather only wait a week than 3 months or more. It really makes you think, though. All those people who have jobs that take them away from their families…They do their jobs yet many of them have the jobs that seem to be the least appreciated ones. Big high five for all of those who have jobs that take them away from their families.

And a soldier!!!!

And a soldier!!!!

Here in SC, there is still leftover snow left on the ground, which means I know there is still snow and ice left over in other southern states that were hit with the snow storm. I’m sure this snow storm was nothing compared to what the people get up north or other places where it snows in a normal basis, but here in the south it’s actually the ice we have to worry about and since we don’t get snow on an even semi-regular basis our roads aren’t made for it, nor are we prepared for it, and unfortunately there a lot of people who don’t know how to drive in it. I’m just thankful it’s passed. I’m also thankful that my husband made it safely to his destination and is now on his way home.

Left over snow and ice in SC after storm

Left over snow and ice in SC after storm

We have left over snow in our yard, on our roof, and porch, as well as ice. I almost busted my ass walking down the steps to take the picture. LOL! Next year this time our house will be painted an entirely different color, thank goodness. I’m excited about it! White with black shutters and a (dark) red door. Hope everyone has a great day/weekend. Be safe!!!

A Trucker’s Wife

proud to be a trucker's wife

My husband left today… I dropped him off at his truck and he’s headed towards Charleston (SC) and then Alabama. Right in the middle of all of this bad weather we’re getting down South, after having left all that snow from last week. With less than 48 hours off he is back on the road. Makes me sad and frustrated, to say the least.

My dad, who used to a truck driver back in the late 60’s and early 70’s, got my husband a coffee mug that plugs into the cigarette lighter so his coffee will stay warm. I made a fresh pot of coffee so he could take a mug on the road with him, figured that was the least I could do. But it’s not enough. Not sure that as much as I try to do for him it will ever be enough for all that he does and goes through just to provide for us. I’m so thankful for him.

I’ll write a more in depth post soon about a trucker’s life, with a few suggestions in regard to movies, etc… But for now I’m going to drink my cup of coffee, finish packing my overnight bag so I can go stay at my in-law’s to wait out the storm that is coming. Hope all is well with those who are experience bad weather. Stay Safe and Warm!!!

bless my trucker on the road

What I’m currently working on

So NaNoWriMo is coming soon. On my other blog, my “writer” blog so I can brand myself as an author, I’ve been talking about NaNo. This is my personal blog (and I’ll catch things up on this blog soon). I thought I’d give you a few clues as to what I’m working on…

Novel; Character Outline for NaNo 2013

Novel; Character Outline for NaNo 2013

When I first begin a novel I work on the character outlines first. I google pics of famous actors, actresses, sports people, band members, etc to find a pic to use as a visual for my character (same hair color, eye color, hair type, body type, etc), sometimes it’s more about the personality of the character, sometimes it’s more about a look or an attitude, but it’s always for me to use as inspiration while I’m writing the character sketch, and then the outline of the novel, and then novel itself.

Last NaNo I pretty much pantsed through it (a pantser is someone who writes a novel “by the seat of their pants,” and all I had was a few basic ideas, a few names for characters, and a place. This time I’m using an Outline for my novel based on “Save the Cat” structure.

Outline template used for novel for NaNo 2013

Outline template used for novel for NaNo 2013

I’d like to think that I could outline a novel without using a structure like this one, but this made it so much easier.

There are several outline templates, several novel writing templates, that I could use, but I found this one I think it might work best for me. While creating the project I needed to go in and change character names, etc. and I found that these names suited my characters much better than the one’s I was using. Though I’m creating a series based on my made up town called Meridian Lake, and I just might use the other project I’d started with that set of character names–at least some of them–for my next novel in the series. I’ve even made a map (hard work and I’m not sure it’s finished, and I’d need to learn a lot more about using Paint, Gimp, etc before I even attempt to create a better map).

Map of Meridian Lake for NaNo Novel 2013

Map of Meridian Lake for NaNo Novel 2013

I’ve been thinking about changing the title to fit the series. Maybe The Meridian Lake series. And have book 1 be called Revelation, or maybe something completely different, something to do with Fate, which is what is in the title now, though I do not like it.

So now you know what I’ve been working on the month of October (and part of September).

My husband, Mr. Rockstar, got a new job and has been in TN all week for orientation. He’ll be flying back home Friday and I can’t wait to see him. I’ve missed him so much I’ve had trouble sleeping. This is the first time we’ve been separated for more than a night since we got serious and moved in together over 2 years ago. We’ve only been married 13 1/2 months so I’m not happy about the separation but I am so happy he found a better job. And I’m so proud of him.
