My vision of our wedding

White and green floral spray wedding decor

I’ve done so much research into the whole wedding process, from real weddings to magazines and the photo shoots that show people what weddings are “supposed to” look like, that I had to take a break from looking at weddings. Instead, I looked at pictures of flowers, listened to music, read a love story, looked up DIY stuff for our home, looked at our guest list with new eyes, and finally I felt better. I had wedding planning burn-out.

I took a break from all it.

After grabbing a fresh cup of coffee, I’m ready to begin thinking about what I want our wedding to look and feel like. What is most important to both of us is that we share this important day with our family and close friends. Mr. Rockstar’s idea of our guest list is “the more the merrier.” Not really my idea, though. I don’t want strangers at our wedding. I don’t want people I barely know there, either. We both have friends we haven’t seen in years, but if you haven’t seen them in years do you really want to invite them to your wedding? No, not really.

Since we’re getting married outside I want to use the natural scenery to our best advantage, which means I don’t want busy decor, I just want to add to the natural decor. Some bright red flowers, some candles, some paper lanterns or white lights in the trees, linens, and I’d like to use Mr. Rockstar’s guitar as part of the decor, as well as my mom’s hutch to use for the guest book table.

(As I write this I’m watching “Say Yes to the Dress,” and am amazed at how ridiculous some of these people are. mom’s who want what they want with no consideration for what their daughter’s want. Bride-to-Be’s who have no concept of budget. Just utterly amazed, and not in a good way.)

I want to look absolutely beautiful, so beautiful that Mr. Rockstar has to catch his breath. I want my mom to see how happy I am, and to think I’m beautiful. I want people to see me, and then the dress. And I’m so excited about my dad walking me down the aisle. We’re having a barbecue reception with acoustic guitar and singing so that it feels more like a family (including our close friends who feel like family) get-together. We’ll have some music to dance to, and no Macarena, so that everyone can have a good time. Lots of great food, great music, beautiful scenery and decor (without being overdone)…

I’m not wearing white so I’m a little concerned that people will see the dress and then me. I’m hoping that when it all comes together it will have the look I’m hoping for. A party with a wedding.
