Why I want a convertible Volkswagen Beetle

All of my life I’ve wanted a car that was “me.” I’ve had “momma” cars. I’ve had a truck or three. I’ve had cars I didn’t like. Cars I couldn’t stand. Cars that I really liked. But the closest I ever had to a car that I loved and felt like me was a 1992 Toyota Celica (you know, the ones with the flip up lights), but I didn’t buy it for me–I just ended up with it. Then it was hit in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart by a big truck…No note on it, nothing…Just a hit and run, and all I had was liability. The damage was so severe that between the small problems I was having mechanically with it (at the time) and the physical damage to the body of it it wasn’t worth fixing.

I’ve owned a Volvo, several Nissans, a few Fords, 2 Chevys (an 84 Camaro and an 88 Cheyenne), a Volkswagen Jetta, a 1970 Toyota Corona (along with the Celica and a Corolla). I liked the Camaro but it needed a lot of work, too much work for the mechanically challenged person that I am. Don’t get me wrong, I can change my own oil, flush my own radiator and transmission fluid, as well as replace a headlight lamp, change a tire, but I am not capable of replacing an engine or brake pads (not yet anyway). The 2 Mustangs I had were POS’s. The Chevy Truck broke. The Volvo caught on fire. The Jetta’s transmission went out. The Corona was old when I got it (my second vehicle) and we (my parents) for the first Mustang I got (was a 1980 LX, and a major POS).

So…Without listing anymore of my vehicle ownership history, I will get to the point. I’ve always wanted something that was a “Lissa” car, as my husband calls it. The convertible BUG is a Lissa car. I am super excited, probably too excited, because if we don’t get it I’m going to be so disappointed. Since both my husband and I both sort of started over before we met each other, longer for him than for me, he might as well be a first time buyer. You gotta love how no credit can almost be worse than bad credit. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed and praying. I’ve even asked for prayers, which is something I don’t often do.

The one we found is really cute, comfortable, has low mileage, and Mr. Rockstar had me sit in it so he could see me in it to determine if it was truly a ” Lissa” car. He said it most definitely is a Lissa car. So hopefully, we’ll get approved and I’ll be getting it Friday evening. It’s a fun car. Cute. Classic in its own way. Adorable. Pretty. Economical. Fun (oh, I said that already). It is a car with personality and though it’s cute it is in its own way pretty and classic. Sounds a lot like me.
